Sitting itself is not the villain. Duration, rigidity, and repeated loading patterns matter more. In my practice, that is often the difference between short-term relief and real change. The body is a system. It adapts, it protects, and it repeats. When you only focus on the loudest symptom, you can miss the pattern that has been quietly building underneath it.
This is why pattern-based bodywork matters. I am not only asking where it hurts. I am looking at how you breathe, how you stand, how you load your joints, where you guard, and what your body has learned to do over time. Why Sitting Is Not the Problem—But How You Sit Is is rarely about one tissue acting alone. It is usually about relationships inside the body and the habits that keep reinforcing them.
Myofascial release can help create space in the body where restriction, guarding, or compensation has taken over. But release by itself is not the whole answer. Lasting change comes when the body gets a new experience and then gets enough repetition to trust that new option. That may include changes in movement, recovery, pacing, hydration, breathing, or how you move through your day.
A lot of people are taught to work harder against pain. Stretch more. Push more. Force more. But the body usually responds better to listening than to aggression. When you understand the pattern, you stop fighting the wrong thing. You can begin to support what the body is actually asking for.
If you are dealing with sitting posture pain, the most useful question may not be “How do I get rid of this quickly?” It may be “What is my body repeating that keeps bringing me back here?” That question changes everything. It shifts the goal from chasing symptoms to changing the conditions that created them.
If you want support identifying what your body may be doing underneath the pain, start with a Body Pattern Assessment or learn more about myofascial release. You can also explore more education in the Learn library.
